Bill Strapp was born in Pietermaritzburg and grew up on a farm in Karkloof near Howick, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
From a very early age, he was interested in drawing and was encouraged by his mother who enrolled him for drawing and art classes. He painted as a hobby for many years and has held one-man exhibitions in Pietermaritzburg, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit and later in Pretoria and Randburg.
He has experimented with various media and different painting and graphic techniques over the years. Bill is extremely versatile and his subject matter consists of city, and street scenes, Cape villages, landscapes, harbour scenes, figure studies and still lives. He prefers to paint in acrylic, but also works in water colour and oils.
He lived for many years on a farm in the Waterberg near Warmbaths, but has recently moved to the Karoo to satisfy his fascination and love for the Cape, the Karoo and its people.
