Simon Addy studied Art at Technikon Natal before running his own advertising agency in Durban and Johannesburg. In 1986 he became a full time artist.
Seeing the work of Antoni Tapies and Jean Tinguely in Paris heavily influenced Simon, and he started incorporating 'found objects' into his paintings. These have increasingly come to reflect Simon's sense of humour and attitude to life.
Simon's work reflects his surroundings. From the guinea fowl and eagles of his country environment to the mixed media assemblages that focus on the stresses and strains of daily living.
